Sequencer

Interactive Sound Sculpture
2011

Sequencer is an interactive sound sculpture in which the viewer is able to create various rhythms and sound textures. The sculpture includes a motor rotating a flexible arm, which is mounted on a board with a series of interchangeable pegs in a circular arrangement. Adding, removing, or rearranging the pegs alters rhythms as the rotating arm hits the pegs. Sequencer is an analog interpretation of contemporary sound sequencers and drum machines. Instead of relying on amplifiers and computer-generated sounds, it uses the raw acoustics of the materials impacting with one another. The project allows for experimentation while forcing the viewer to focus on minute audible differences.
